Virmalised, meaning “Northern Lights,” is an Estonian folk dance group with roots dating back to 1934. For over 90 years, Estonian dancers in Australia have kept their cultural heritage alive, passing down stories and rhythms through generations. Today, Virmalised brings together dancers from across NSW to perform traditional and contemporary Estonian folk dances in striking national costumes (rahvariided), each reflecting a unique region and era. Their repertoire includes dances from the UNESCO-listed Estonian Dance Celebration, where members proudly performed alongside 10,000 dancers worldwide. Join Virmalised for a vibrant showcase of movement, music, and the enduring spirit of Estonian culture.
