Azerbaijan’s state honorary artist, Tar soloist Shib Pashazade, violinist Ceyla Seyidova and pianist Dr Boris Guslitser will perform a selection of Azerbaijani classics. The trio will also support dancers and singers as they perform traditional and popular pieces. Sevinj Huseynli, an Honored Artist of Azerbaijan and the principal dancer of the Azerbaijan State Dance Ensemble, will open their performance with a signature performance of Sari Gelin, a beloved Azerbaijani folk song. The phrase Sari Gelin in Turkish or Azerbaijani translates to “blonde bride,” “sorrow,” or “the sun.” This centuries-old song, deeply rooted in legend, is celebrated throughout Turkey and the Caucasus. Sari Gelin tells the poignant tale of two star-crossed lovers from different backgrounds.
