Register to be a Master of Ceremonies (MC)
As a Stage MC, you will be the lively and engaging host for performances on your assigned stage. You’ll introduce performers, keep the crowd energised, and manage the flow of performances. This role involves being assigned to specific stages for the duration of your shift. It requires strong public speaking skills, as well as the ability to think on your feet. Additionally, a solid understanding of stage operations and performer requirements (or the ability to quickly acquire) is essential.
Accessibility
This is an outdoor volunteer role stationed at a stage, so you’ll need to navigate the stage set up. All stages will have one set of stairs and one ramp to access the stage floor. You will have a chair to rest on between announcements.
It will require you to interact with people and support them in their roles. It will be busy and loud.
Responsibilities
- Host and facilitate events and performances on assigned stages.
- Communicate program updates to the entertainment coordinators.
- Review and discuss MC scripts before each session or showcase.
- Foster positive relationships among performers, showcase coordinators and sound and lighting engineers.
- Respond promptly to emergency announcements as directed by event organisers.
- Engage the audience by making announcements and introducing performers.
- Maintain a lively and positive atmosphere throughout the festival.
- Adhere to the event schedule and keep the audience informed.
- Research and familiarise yourself with the diverse cultures represented at the festival.
- Be mindful of cultural customs, traditions, and potential sensitivities to avoid unintentional offence.
- Use inclusive language that respects the diversity of the audience and performers.
