Volunteers

Be part of the team behind one of Canberra's
most loved events

Every year, hundreds of volunteers help bring the National Multicultural Festival to life. From welcoming visitors and supporting performers and stallholders to assisting with event logistics, volunteers play a vital role in creating a safe, inclusive and memorable experience for all.

Whether you're looking to gain experience, meet new people, or give back to the community, there's a volunteer role for you at the 2027 festival, taking place from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 February 2027.

Why volunteer?

Volunteers are at the heart of the National Multicultural Festival. Whether you're behind the scenes or out in the heart of the action, volunteering gives you the chance to:

  • Meet people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Build confidence and develop valuable new skills
  • Gain hands-on experience supporting a major community event
  • Connect with your community and make a meaningful contribution
  • Celebrate and share the cultures that make Canberra unique
  • Enjoy a rewarding behind-the-scenes festival experience

Who we're looking for

There’s a volunteer role for everyone. Whether you enjoy helping people, working behind the scenes, being part of a busy event environment, or sharing your language and cultural knowledge, we’d love to hear from you.

Volunteers who speak languages other than English are particularly encouraged to apply, as these skills help us create a more welcoming and accessible experience for our diverse communities.

We’re seeking volunteers for a range of roles across the festival. Download the Volunteer Role Guide(opens in new tab) or explore the roles below to learn more and find the opportunity that’s right for you.

What you need to know

  • Volunteers must be 18 years or older. Those aged 16 or 17 may be eligible if accompanied by a guardian who is also volunteering during the same shift.
  • You’ll receive a festival t-shirt, hat and a food voucher.
  • Shifts are 4.5 hours or less, and you can sign up for one or more sessions across the weekend, with plenty of time to enjoy the festival.
  • Full training will be provided.
  • We’re committed to making volunteering accessible to everyone — just let us know your needs.
